If I disagree with my assessed value, how do I file an appeal?
In order to appeal the assessment, you would need to contact the Gwinnett County Tax Assessors Office.  The City of Lawrenceville bills their property taxes based on property values provided by Gwinnett County.

How is the assessed value calculated?
The assessed value is 40% of the fair market value, as determined by the tax assessors office.  For example, if the fair market value of the property is $100,000, the assessed value is $40,000.

How is the amount of my property tax calculated?
The property tax is calculated by multiplying the assessed value, less any exemptions,  by the millage rate. If the millage rate is 2.56 and the assessed value is $40,000.00 it would be $40,000 X .00256 = $102.40 so your tax bill would be $102.40.  To put it another way, 2.56 mills is equal to $2.56 in property tax for each $1000.00 of assessed value.
